Nexook prohibits the recording of sessions without explicit consent from all participants. This article outlines the proper procedure for obtaining consent and the potential consequences of unauthorized recording.

Why Consent Matters

Recording a conversation without consent:

  • May violate privacy laws in many jurisdictions

  • Breaches trust between participants

  • Violates Nexook's Terms of Service

  • Could potentially lead to legal liability

Obtaining Proper Consent

If you wish to record a session, follow these steps:

1. Request Permission Before the Session Starts

  • Begin by clearly stating your request to record

  • Example: "I'd like to record our session today so that I can review it later. Would that be acceptable to you?"

2. Explain Your Purpose

Clearly state why you want to record the session:

  • For personal review

  • For educational purposes

  • For documentation

  • Other specific reasons

3. Explain How the Recording Will Be Used and Stored

  • Specify who will have access to the recording

  • Explain how long you plan to keep the recording

  • Describe any security measures to protect the recording

  • Clarify whether the recording will be shared with anyone else

4. Document the Consent

  • Ask for verbal consent at the beginning of the session (if recording)

  • Alternatively, use Nexook's messaging system to request and receive written consent before the session

5. Respect the Right to Decline or Withdraw Consent

  • Accept "no" as a final answer without pressuring the other party

  • If consent is withdrawn during the session, stop recording immediately

  • Delete any portion recorded after consent was withdrawn

Consent Template Message

Here's a template you can use to request recording consent via Nexook's messaging system:

CopiarSubject: Request to Record Our Upcoming Session Hello [Name], I'm writing to request permission to record our upcoming session on [date/time]. Purpose of recording: [explain your purpose] The recording will be used for: [explain intended use] Storage and security: [explain how you'll store the recording and for how long] Please let me know if you consent to this recording. You have the right to decline this request or to withdraw consent at any time during our session. Thank you, [Your Name]

If You Suspect Unauthorized Recording

If you believe the other party may be recording without consent:

  1. Clearly state that you do not consent to being recorded

  2. If the behavior continues, you may end the session

  3. Report the incident to support@nexook.com

Expert-Specific Guidance

For professionals in fields with specific confidentiality requirements (therapists, lawyers, financial advisors, etc.):

  • Be aware of additional regulatory or ethical requirements in your field

  • Consider whether recording is compatible with your professional obligations

  • Maintain appropriate documentation of consent according to your professional standards

Legal Considerations

Please note that recording laws vary significantly by jurisdiction:

  • Some locations require consent from all parties ("two-party consent")

  • Others require consent from only one party ("one-party consent")

  • Nexook's policy requires all-party consent regardless of local laws

Nexook users are responsible for complying with all applicable laws in their jurisdiction in addition to Nexook's policies.
